Bach, Improvisation and the Liturgical Year
Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra
Pasi Opus 4 (1995)
Trinity Lutheran Church, Lynnwood, WA
This recording documents a recital given by Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra on the Martin Pasi organ of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood, WA. Compositions of J. S. Bach were organized by the liturgical year, and interspersed with Ruiter-Feenstra's own improvisations. Based on ideas found in Bach’s works and stemming from genres he most commonly used, her improvisations create new works using Bach’s compositional processes. In her roles as artist and teacher, Ruiter-Feenstra is a major advocate of improvisation and performance on historically-based instruments.

Pasi Opus 14 (2003)
St. Cecilia Cathedral,

A seminal figure in the development of North German organ music, Buxtehude spent the greater part of his long career in Lübeck, where he was visited by the young Handel and Bach, eager to hear his legendary performances. This sixth volume of his complete organ music includes four Praeludia, works that had a strong influence on the following generation of organ composers, and compositions based on chorale melodies, including two versions of Nun lob, mein seel, den Herrn.

WIDOR: Organ Favourites
John DelcampPasi Opus 14 (2003)
St. Cecilia Cathedral,
Omaha, Nebraska
Charles-Marie Widor’s ten organ symphonies, inspired by the magnificent Cavaillé-Coll organ at Saint-Sulpice in Paris revolutionised the art of organ playing and composition in France. This disc of selected highlights includes the Symphony No. 5, the best-known of Widor’s symphonies, with its famous concluding Toccata, the Andante cantabile from Symphony No. 4, one of the composer’s loveliest slow movements, and the hugely virtuosic Allegro from Symphony No. 6, which features one of the most exciting crescendos in the organ repertoire. Bach’s Memento is a tribute to a composer whose reputation Widor did much to re-establish in France.

Youthful Brilliance
Pasi Opus 14 (2003)
St. Cecilia Cathedral,
Omaha, Nebraska
This sixth volume completes George Ritchie's series of recordings which comprise all of the works for organ by J. S. Bach. Together, the recordings survey ten organs which have been built in America by artisans who work in a style based on historical precedents. Each volume includes registrations of the works recorded, stoplists and descriptions of the organs, and musicological notes on the works by George Stauffer and George Ritchie.
Two Organs:
Martin Pasi built the three-manual organ for Saint Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha, Nebraska in 2003 as his firm’s Opus 14. The organ features dual temperaments: one well-tempered and the other 1/4-comma meantone (George Ritchie uses the meantone temperament for the Prelude and Fugue in C Major). The 78 ranks include two at 32' pitch.
Charles Fisk (1925-1983) built his largest instrument in 1979 for the House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Like the Pasi organ, the Fisk was built to play a wide range of historical literature. The Great and Brustwerk divisions follow North German Baroque models located in the cities of Hamburg and Lübeck. Some characteristics derive from the work of Andreas and Gottfried Silbermann, blending German and French ideas of the 18th century. Fisk has incorporated stops in the style of 19th-century organs by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. The organ has four manuals and 86 ranks, two of which are at 32' pitch.
